TK reviews Chickenfoot's debut album!

TK Album Review

Artist- Chickenfoot
Album- Chickenfoot

When your lead singer describes the new material that his brand new band is working on as comparable to Led Zeppelin, then you're going to put some pressure on yourself to live up to those expectations. Chickenfoot has long been the rumored alias to music's latest supergroup, and what a group it is. On lead vocals you have the former front man for Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, original Van Halen bassist, Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith and on lead guitar, you might have heard of him, Joe Satriani.

So now that their debut album has been released I had to run out and buy it to see if Hagar's statement was true. And after listening to it, it's not Led Zeppelin but it has a sound that definitely reminds you of the great Zep.

Chickenfoot grab you from track one and take you on a devilish and fun rock and roll roller coaster. What makes this album and band work so well is the combination of front man Hagar with his new guitar God- Satriani. Friends, Joe flat out jams on this album. From the opening track entitled Avenida Revolucion to the quite seductive Sexy Little Thing, he just kills it. The riffs are catchy and the solos, they leave you feeling a little bit dirty because you will enjoy them so much.

The rhythm section adds a lot to the tracks as well. Michael Anthony who was very well known for backup vocals in Van Halen adds his style again backing up Hagar. The two just know how to work very well together. Chad Smith, where is this kind of drumming in the RHCP? Dude, you can flat out kill the drum kit and it shows in this band. It appears to me that the guys in this band just let loose and the product reflects that.

Their first single Oh Yeah is an instant hit on the radio and it will have you singing along every time. Soap on a Rope along with Future in the Past and Turnin' Left are just in your face flat out rock and roll arena type songs, and this is a band that if all plays out will be rocking sold out arenas in the near future.

It is very refreshing to hear a band like this as they have lived up to the hype that came with them. I mean you combine two members of Van Halen with the drummer of the RHCP and throw in Joe 'Guitar Hero' Satriani, and you can't go wrong. Every track contains a signature Satriani solo and the sound these four guys produce when it's all put together is quite magical.

Chickenfoot's self titled debut album is a fresh breath to music fans everywhere. This is definitely an in your face rock and roll band whose record just is pure rock and roll at it's finest. And in a genre that doesn't really possess too many 'fresh' and 'current' acts, this band is a great one too take the rock and roll reigns. Their debut album while it may not sell millions and millions of records, it is one that you should definitely add to your collection, especially for those of you who are rock and roll fans.

TK's rating- 3.5/5 stars
