Well folks, it's after midnight and it's Saturday morning and I feel like ranting. Now I just got back from seeing 'Observe and Report' and my friends it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and I can honestly say it's one of the worst movies of all time. Seth Rogen what were you thinking? Did you actually think when you read that script it was going to be something audiences were going to enjoy?
People I think that I know a funny movie when I see one and believe me don't go and waste ten bucks on this movie, hell don't run to the video store in a few months either, it's just not funny. If you've seen the trailers for this movie then there you go, that's all you need. The funny moments are practically the trailer clips and the movie runs dry afterwards. Aside from the scarce funny lines, which there are, the movie is so unlike Seth Rogen. As I told Brendan after the movie, the biggest problem is Seth Rogen is not ready to top line a movie and my how it shows.

Take 'Knocked Up.' He had a terrific cast around him and the movie didn't rely on his character to support the quality of the movie. 'Observe and Report' on the other hand, Rogen is the only thing that carries the movie. You may ask what about Anna Faris and Ray Liotta? Well shes in the movie for a total time of about 4 minutes and Ray Liotta does however steal one scene where he just goes off on Rogen's character. The two funky looking Asian guards don't add anything as they barely talk in the movie and Michael Pena contributes nothing as Rogen's number two in command.
Well now on to the actual movie. The whole story resolves around Ronnie (Rogen) as he paroles the halls of his mall but he has come to a point in his life where he wants something more. After an unknown perpetrator flashes several mall visitors including the girl of Ronnie's dreams Brandi (Faris) the mall has the police come in led by Detective Harrison (Liotta.) Ronnie thinks that the police are intruding on his territory and thus sets out to find this pervert before Detective Harrison does. So of course the two get in each other's way and it's not too long until Harrison goes off on Ronnie.
Ronnie has a wake up call and decides that he wants to better his life and thus wants to become a police officer. He goes through all the physical training and mental preparations and of course fails and thus resorts back to being a laughed at mall guard. He does however be friend Nell, who works at a coffee store in the mall and the two form a very tight connection. After Ronnie learns who is robbing the mall at night his world is turned upside down and is fired from his job.
Determined to find the pervert he returns to the mall where he and Nell kick off their romance and it is there where a riot ensues and the chase for the pervert is on.
'Observe and Report' fails to utilize Rogen's true comedic talent. The jokes are few and far in between and the movie tends to slow down way too much for fans of Rogen's liking. The surrounding cast fail to come through at all and the movie seems so drawn out and awkward at times it just gets very old. I don't want you people to think I'm giving up on Rogen because I'm not. He is very funny but is not ready to headline his own movie. He was terrific as B.O.B. in 'Monsters vs. Aliens' but this movie bombs and bombs hard! So please just put that ten bucks back in your pocket before you do something you're going to regret!
TK's Take: 1 out of 5 stars.
