So after last week's episode entitled Cold Snap that brought us back to the glory days of what was once one of the best new shows in recent memory. And after tonight's episode, I must say I'm a bit disappointed with what I just saw. It was so good last week, but tonight it fell flat, as we yet again had stupid story lines that just seemed as filler to a show that should be kicking our butts every week.
In tonight's episode it dealt with a few storylines. First one we'll dwell on is the whole father-daughter bonding experience between Nathan and Claire. While I admire the two of them trying to get closer, it just seemed like a waste of time tonight. They fly to Mexico after Nathan's ability is revealed to his 'fugitive hunting party' so he and Claire take refuge at a random hotel and Nathan, a senator none the less, who has the ability to fly, goes and challenges a bunch of guys to a drinking game to win some money. Really? Are you kidding me here? the man can fly at extreme speeds and has to resort to drinking games to obtain money. My God, why can't the writers be more logical? As Claire calls him, he can be Superman if he puts his mind to it. He promises he is going to make things right, of course when he's drunk he says this, and the next morning it's same old Nathan, full of lies and being selfish.
Claire can see all the good in him but for some reason Nathan can't and it's going to have to happen soon if Nathan plans on foiling the heroes roundup.
Elsewhere tonight we get the Petrelli family reunion. Angela has always been the manipulator and user in the show and has finally come to see the evil of her ways, and goes to God to seek forgiveness along with her guardian angel, her son, Peter. I actually enjoyed watching this part of the show because I want to see the Petrelli family become just that, a family again. I think this has some potential because it should be interesting to see where the writers take this plot point next. Obviously Angela and Peter don't get captured as agents move on in them at the church, thanks to Noah concealing he finds them. Angela and Peter seek out to go find Nathan and Claire after Angela gets some sleep and has one of her visions, which we don't know, but we discover that she has a sister, hopefully someone with the ability to do something, like give Peter his powers back?
Elsewhere we find the team of Danko and his new partner in crime, Sylar. Sylar comes to Danko with a proposition. That he will help Danko round up all the people with abilities and in return he gets to take them. So of course that is put to the test when the two of them go after a man who can take another's shape, or identity. That was actually pretty cool and it was interesting to see the two of them work together, because in a way the two think a like and plan a like. So in the end, it's the shape shifter who takes Sylar's form and tries to escape with Danko and danko realizes it's not him and shoots him, not killing him but leaving him for Sylar to take his ability which he does but doesn't cut open the head like we have come to expect. So he does it the new way and then a knife is put into the back of the brain where he stays dead, and Noah I think suspects something but who knows.
Love the ending where Sylar says, funny how that works, in response to you'll be the last one left.
The show was just alright tonight especially after last week's glimpses of brilliance. It needs to continue to build on these stories but with only a handful of episodes left in the season, I'm afraid time might be running out, let's hope I'm wrong.
