My first music review: 'Defying Gravity'

Well for those who don't know I'm a huge classic rock fan and over the last couple of years have really gotten into country music. So today was an exciting day because I am a Keith Urban fan and his new CD entitled 'Defying Gravity' was released.

I must say after listening to the cd in it's entirety it was very good with the message of love and thanks written into every song. From 'Kiss A Girl' to 'Thank You' all the tracks contain hidden lines devoted to his wife Nicole Kidman, which is nice, but after a while it's like we get it!

The thing I've always liked about Urban is his upbeat tracks. Ones like 'You Look Good in my Shirt' and 'Days Go By' and that is where this record falls short. Aside from 'Kiss a Girl' and 'Hit the Ground Runnin' the CD is full of mainly ballads and slower tempo songs. Now don't get me wrong there are some great songs on here like his number 1 hit, 'Sweet Thing' 'If Ever I Could Love,' and 'Only You Can Love me this way.' There is some great guitar work on the CD also which Urban has been known for throughout his entire career.

But as a fan I was kind of hoping for more upbeat songs, the ones that made him famous, but I guess you can't always be that picky. 'Defying Gravity' is a very positive record for a man whose life over the last couple of years has been full of challenges, including a stint or two in rehab. But Urban since getting re-married and becoming a new father has defintely had a career change for the better.

His music and persona are very positive and that translates through his lyrics. There are a lot of catchy lyrics that fans of all ages will be singing at his shows, I know I will be in May at All State Arena.

So if you're a fan of country music, Keith, or need something to lift you up, 'Defying Gravity' is defintely something you might want to check out!

TK's take: 3.5 out of 5
