Anyone else left jaw-dropped right now? Because I am? I honestly think that tonight's episode called, 'New Boss' was one of the best episodes ever. A lot of events transpired tonight featuring one of the best Jim-Dwight pranks in recent memory and some of the tension boiling between characters tonight was at an all time high. So without further a due on with the recap:
Michael is celebrating 15 years with Dunder Mifflin and of course is planning his party thanks to help or lack there of from Dwight, Jim and Pam. We cut to Jim whose wearing a tuxedo thanks to a recent press release issued by Dwight because of an indecent dress code in the Office. Jim doing a very good James Bond impression always goes one step above Dwight and has Michael eating out of the palm of his hand with his very classy ideas. How about a statue surrounded by various chocolate fruits? Like strawberries, yes now that's classy.
In comes the new boss Charles Minor played by TV veteran Idris Elba. Talk about a guy with no sense of humor, this guy is a complete hard-ass and a polar opposite of our beloved Michael Scott. Charles comes in with a work first attitude and quickly makes some changes and draws interest from some of the ladies of Dunder Mifflin, notably Angela and Kelly. Props go out to Angela for the line of the night...'He doesn't have to go dumpster diving.' That was hysterical. Charles and Michael quickly get at eachother because Charles revokes the PPC (party planning committee) thus cancelling Michael's 15th Anniversary Party, who does he think he is?
Michael and Dwight try to get in contact with David Wallace during all of this but can't seem to reach him because of an 'important meeting.' Dwight's call as Michael Scotch was great, you do have to know how to charm your boss right, and what better way to do that then by threatening the CFO that you have his soon in the trunk of your car! We also find tonight that Charles isn't the biggest fan of Jim. The tuxedo wearing number 2 has a hard time impressing the new VP as Charles grills him on more then one occassion. He asks Jim if he wants to keep his imaginary number 2 position and asks him what responsibilities come with that job, and he can't think of any. Should be interesting to see the tension boil between these two in upcoming episodes.
But on to the biggest event of the night. Michael drives to New York to confront David Wallace, who lately I have come to hate. This man has stuck up for the company more then once and is treated like a nobody. From all the compliments he has gotten over the years he is not appreciated and always taken advantage of. We find Wallace coming out of the bathroom and Michael explains the things he doesn't like about Charles and David agrees to make some changes to suit Michael. Michael takes it as an insult and what does he do. He gets up shakes his hand and says I quit. Now I had to do a double take and was stunned. My jaw dropped. It is one of the best moments in the show because Michael stuck up for himself and it was such a joy to see. Yes I know I'm taking this too seriousaly but I wouldn't be happy with myself if I didn't lol.
It is going to be fascinating to watch the rest of the season to see what Michael does and how else Charles is going to affect the people of Scranton.
Other thoughts:
-When Michael introduces Charles to the accounting people. I love the comments he gives on Oscar, then turns to Angela and describes how she has slept with several people in the Office... cut to Andy, "Hey Yo!" Priceless, and then to the sex life of Kevin, Kevin has no sex life, that was amazing.
-The last scene with kelly and angela in the parking lot, awesome.
So what did you Office viewers think about tonight? I think it's one of the best shows in the series history, was well written and featured our beloved boss finally stickign up for himself, take that David Wallace, now that's classy.

I thought it was hilarious also. It made me so uncomfortable and those are always the best episodes of the office. I really have no idea what is going to happen next with Michael. I noticed that the next episode is called Two Weeks... so I guess he's really going through with the quitting... at least for now.

Hey jackie v, i know aren't the uncomfortable, awkward moments priceless. it should be interesting to see what the future holds for michael scott, stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog Tim. I agree that "New Boss" was one of the best Office episodes in quite some time, but I disagree with the hate towards David Wallace. Michael is an absolute goof. In the real world, Michael would have been removed as branch manager by the middle of season 2, but this is TV, so he catches many breaks. Wallace, despite being a bit of a snob, seems to be a lot more decent than what I would expect from that company. I feel Wallace's sour attitude towards Michael is well justified.
