TK reviews Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian

Well I'm sitting here in St. Joe's Michigan on vacation for about a three day duration and I decided I had to just post my review of 'Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian.' Now is that dedication or what? But all joking aside, I just wanted to review this movie before I forget all the classic highlights of this movie.

'Night at the Museum 2' as I'll call it, was a bit slow at first I must say compared to the last flick, but after explaining the premise of the movie, things picked up a bit. Larry Daley has become the inventor he has always desired to be. He is the CEO and founder of Daley Devices and he has the world at his disposal. He apparently is doing very well for himself but right away you can tell that a piece of him is missing. He has the fame, money and title, but you can tell something is bothering this man.

After his latest invention is received well by the media, the glow in the dark flashlight, Larry makes an unexpected stop on his way home from work one night He goes back to the museum where he and the rest of us discover that the exhibits are being moved to the national archives for permanent storage- The Smithsonian at Washington D.C. Apparently kids of today's age want to experience and learn exhibits in a whole new way so the museum must adapt to the growing change in today's youth.

Larry has a final talk with Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) and finds out that none of the other exhibits are aware of their impending fate. So fast forward a bit and Larry is at home with his son and gets an unexpected phone call from Jedediah (Owen Wilson). The New York displays are being attacked by a new enemy- Kahmunrah, (Hank Azaria). We discover he is the older brother and more vicious brother of Ahkmenrah. He 'has come back to life' to finish what he started, complete and utter world domination. Larry meets him and Kahmunrah is determined to get the table to finish his quest.

He enlists the help of some of the world's most evil villains- Al Capone, Ivan the Terrible and Napoleon. He promises them the world in return for the tablet and the death of Larry and all who oppose them including the NY exhibits. Larry gets help from Amelia Earhart and company in order to prevent Kahmunrah from taking over the museum.

The movie mixes a lot of back and forth arguing between Stiller and Azaria that does get a bit old after a while but other then that this sequel is actually pretty good. They have a lot of classic things come to life and offer a lot of surprises to fans as well. Three little cupids played by one of the most popular music bands in the world right now, but I won't tell you who it is. The movie does have some action but nothing out of this world but that's not what this movie is about.

The good guys against the bad guys is what makes the film and new cast members including the funny Bill Hader just add to the movie. Their quest that they all must go on in order to learn how to defeat the bad guys is quite funny actually.

It does contain a lot of good humor and adult type humor also. Stiller again delivers as the lead character and Amy Adams offers a lot to us viewers as Amelia. All the original players are featured in this movie minus Robin Williams, who doesn't have a big enough role in this for me. I could of used more of Robin Williams, but what are you going to do? The sequel flows very nicely and is most definitely worth checking out. Aside from the slow start the movie works very nicely.

'Night at the Museum Battle of the Smithsonian' is a great family movie and movie for kids my age, so go see it especially if you saw the first one, because you won't be disappointed

'Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian' gets 3.5/5 stars.
