TK'S TAKE ON 'STAR TREK'
Well boys and girls I must admit that I have never seen an episode of Star Trek on television or one of the vast movies that have come before this one. So clearing my mind and getting ready to accept the culture known too the vast nerds out there, just kidding, I was ready for anything.
'Star Trek' kicks things off with a bang and it really never looks back. The director J.J. Abrams tells the story of our beloved Captain Kirk and just what he went through to become the Captain of the Enterprise. The movie dives into the present and the future but never loses it's main way during the story telling process. The movie unfolds very nicely and I think is quite easy to follow and most importantly it keeps you entertained.
These characters which were all casted perfectly make you feel connected to the characters they are portraying and the emotions they encounter and feel throughout the movie, most notably Spock played excellently by one of my favorite actors, Zachary Quinto. You really start to route for these characters and all the things they must face as the movie unfolds. From Spock's struggle to being a Vulcan follower or does he go toward what he feels thanks to his human mother (Winona Ryder). Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) struggles to fulfill his inevitable destiny as he is a brilliant young man but early in the film we find him on the path to self destruction as he doesn't have a care for anything in the world, other then himself.
The rest of the Enterprise crew also take center stage including Sulu and Chekov played by John Cho and Anton Yelchin respectively. Where Star Trek succeeds is that it knows how to stay on point through the movie. The main premise of the movie is that the villain, Captain Nero played by Eric Bana has mysteriously time traveled into the future (unaware) and is set out for retribution after his home planet was destroyed thanks to Spock. Nero is hell bent on finding Spock and bringing him to justice and goes from Federation planet to planet destroying all forms of life there, no matter what.
It is then where the U.S.S. Enterprise steps in and must find a way to stop Nero before he reaches the next target- Earth. Spock and Kirk engage in a very heated battle because the two are both quite bright and neither one wants to be up shown by the other because of what I call their strive for power. Spock's leadership skills are called into question after he is forced to watch his home planet destroyed by Nero and it is then when Kirk and Spock team up to unite against their common enemy.
The movie really does exceeds your expectations and as I mentioned earlier the character development that is shown with almost all of our main players is quite astonishing. Each person is introduced to us and we learn what their purpose aboard the vessel is and just how they all tie together. I have to give the movie major credit for staying on point and not trying to wow the audience with out of this world special effects and other computer imagery that would essentially take away from the masterful storytelling of the movie.
'Star Trek' exemplifies just how good a movie can be when you mix the right cast with the right story and a director who seemingly doesn't know how to make anything bad. With the movie already raking in some early big box office receipts, the talks have already begun to come in on the future of this franchise.
And if I can quote our dear friend Spock, I think it's safe to say this franchise is ready to live long and prosper for many years to come!

I thought it was great! I can't get into any futuristic space movie, but I liked it. especially the "car chase" scene on "earth" in the beginning haha
